In the case of a visit with tasting: the tour does not include a stop in Polenta; in this case it lasts about 3 hours.

The tour in the city takes place on foot; there are no paid entrances.

What to visit:
from the parking lot of Largo Cairoli go up a short path crossing the so-called “Strada della Vendemmia”, continue to Piazza della Libertà and go up towards the Rocca to descend to the bus. By bus we head towards Polenta to visit the Pieve di San Donato.
Under the loggias of the Municipality stands an epigraph dedicated to the (lost) sense of good governance: O Bretinoro, why don’t you run away, then what trip did your family and many people have to avoid being ria?

Next to it is the column of the rings, the Italian symbol of the sense of hospitality that in Dante’s time must have been the distinctive character of the town.A walk up to the Rocca dating back to the year 1000 will take us even further back in time, to Frederick Barbarossa and the heroine of this village: Aldruda Frangipane.

In Bertinoro which is the undisputed homeland of the first white wine to have obtained the D.O.C.G. in 1987, Albana di Romagna, a stop at one of the many wineries that produce it for a taste is absolutely recommended.

Transfer to Polenta.
Through an extraordinary panoramic road, we will reach this small hamlet, between cultivated fields and vineyards; along the way, we will discover the small Pieve di San Donato.
Ancient but restored during the twentieth century, the church, silent and majestic, has an important story to tell that binds Dante and Carducci together.
The great modern poet dedicated a poem to the parish; it is “the Church of Polenta”
Agile and alone it comes from hill to hill almost hinting at the arduous cypress. Perhaps Francesca tempered the ardent eyes to smile here?
The verses refer to Francesca da Polenta, unhappy lover of Paolo Malatesta, protagonist of Canto V of Hell, group of the lustful. This was the place where the dynasty that ruled in Ravenna came from.
